MUBI Keynote & Industry Screening

The Founder and CEO of art-house streaming service MUBI will guest the 30th Stockholm International Film Festival to hold a keynote address opening the festival's Industry Days.

Cakarel will discuss MUBI's unique business model, their expansion into production, and what they are looking for in Nordic cinema. The Keynote address is followed by an industry screening of Jesper Kurlandsky and Fredrik Wenzel’s highly anticipated film Charismatic Megafauna at Park.

This experimental documentary, by an award-winning duo of screenwriters and directors, is a film that transcends words. By doing so, this audiovisual experience challenges traditional storytelling. Kurlandsky and Wenzel takes us from the townships of Cape Town to the Xingu River in Brazil to the most densely populated country in the world and its capital, Beijing. Efe Cakarel founded MUBI after he tried to watch 'In the Mood for Love' online in a café in Tokyo but discovered that nobody was offering it to him. Previously, Efe was with Goldman Sachs in London and New York, where he worked on IPOs, mergers and acquisitions, and private equity investments. He earned his B.S. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from MIT, and MBA from Stanford. Efe ranked 3rd in the 1994 European Math Championship in Geneva, Switzerland.
